Rootballs

This was a common site in Eureka Springs after Hurricane Ike passed over us. Trees were down all over town, particularly in the hollows behind many homes. Since we had received so much rain, the soil was very wet and saturated, and many oak trees were simply lifted out of the ground, leaving a large rootball exposed (like in this photo).
